Enter the year 1990. If you loved sneakers, this was a pinnacle year for your taste buds. But, before we get to the sneakers, lets get you in the moment. Say you were 11 years old (I know some of you guys weren’t even born or in college or older but you’ll relate). Since there was no internet, if you didn’t have a job or after work, you were most likely outdoors playing basketball, handball, blasting people with your super soaker (summer), playing tag football on the street (fall/winter), or doing stunts on your BMX. If you were looking for something on TV chances are you would be tuning into shows like the Simpsons, In Living Color, Seinfeld, Married With Children, Family Matters, Perfect Strangers, Who’s The Boss, The Wonder Years,The Cosby Show, A Different World, Growing Pains, Saved By The Bell, Nick at Nite lineup etc. After your TV show was over and you had some time to kill, chances are you had a NES, Genesis, Turbo Grafx 16 or Neo Geo (if your parents were “ballin’”) to keep you occupied. While playing your video games you were most likely to be blasting Eric B & Rakim, Heavy D, Cathy Dennis, Public Enemy, Serch, Depeche Mode, Masta Ace, Ralph Tresvant, Guns N’ Roses, Judy Torres etc. Ok, now that I’ve got your mind in 1990, lets say it was one of those good days were you were off to your local flea market or mall and a trip to the sneaker spot was inevitable. What you would see on the walls would blow your mind. Trainer SC’s, Solo Flights, Tech Challenge’s, Premier Edition Pumps, SXT Pumps, Etonics, British Knights, L.A. Gears, AM 1′s, AM 90′s, Flights, Military and Fire Red IV’s, aqua socks, Air Spans, Air Bounds, OG New Balance, Asics Etc. If you had the money to walk out of their with one or a few of your favorites life was GOOD. I can still remember being in school and staring at everyones sneakers.
